Exception loading midas.dll

Q:  When I run an afs application I get the error: Exception in Vclmid50.bpl Error loading midas.dll.  How do I fix this?

A:  This dll is used in some afs applications.  It has a bug in that, the first time it is loaded on a machine, it writes a registry entry where it is located.  After that, it always looks to that original location when it is needed.

The above error typically occurs if you move the location of the afs directory and rename or remove the original location.  There are a couple of ways to fix the problem

  • Put back the original directory with the midas.dll file in it.  You can remove all other files and just leave the midas.dll file in the old directory so that users pointing to it will still find it.
  • You can re-register where the new midas.dll is to be found.  To do this, run the command
        regsvr32 <path_to_midas.dll>\midas.dll
    For example
        regsvr32 \\Apps\afs\midas.dll
